Side effects
Pure extract of liquorice contains high levels of glycyrrhizin and can cause mineralocorticoid reactions in the form of water and sodium retention, potassium excretion and increase in blood pressure. However, these adverse reactions are not often seen with D-Reglis, as the level of glycyrrhizin in the liquorice extract is lowered from 30% to 3% through hydrolysis. If this medicine is used over long periods (more than 6 consecutive months), it may cause side effects; however, having two drug-free weeks would alleviate the above-mentioned reactions.
Also, in some cases may cause nausea, vomiting and headache.
NOT to be taken during pregnancy and lactation.
