Mechanism of Action:
The alleviating effects on throat ache and congestion are due to the thymol in the lozenge, which increases ciliary movements and mucus secretion in the respiratory tract. The vitamin C in acerola is crucial for collagen formation and regeneration of body tissues. This vitamin is involved in some oxidation and reduction reactions and acts as an anti-oxidant. Also, this vitamin is involved in the metabolism of some amino acids, norepinephrine, histamine, iron, some enzymatic systems, carbohydrate consumption, and lipid and protein catabolism. It is also essential in strengthening of immune system and preventing fragility of blood vessels.
Active Ingredients and Components :
Each lozenge contains about 0.89-1.21 mg total phenolic compounds based on thymol and standardized dried extract of acerola fruit (containing natural vitamin C). Thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.) extract contains active ingredients including thymol, carvacrol and p-cymene. Extract of Thyme also contains tannins, flavonoids, saponins as well as bitter agents. The extract of acerola cherry (Malpighia emarginata) contains natural vitamin C. The product is standardized based on total poly phenols as thymol.
