Mechanism of Action:
The silybin in silymarin group in this drug have strong antioxidant effects against free radicals and prevent peroxidation in liver lesions caused by toxins, chemicals and viruses. Also, silymarin prevents formation of inflammation factors, which can be beneficial in the treatment of cirrhosis or hepatic fibrosis. Effect on hepatic regeneration: Silymarin stimulates the synthesis of ribosomal proteins by increasing the activity of the enzyme RNA polymerase in the cell nucleus; this enzymatic activity increases the renewal capacity of liver cells, unlike the inhibitory effects of other toxins, like toxic mushrooms. The compounds in the extracts of turmeric have hepatic antitoxic and lipid lowering effects through mechanism effective on various kinases; they also manifest anti-inflammatory effects on the liver and other organs though inhibition of formation of inflammatory agents. Its antioxidant effects are attributed to curcumin in turmeric (Curcuma longa L.). The active ingredients in artichoke have stimulating effects on bile ducts, which result in biliary and lipid lowering effects, the combination of which help the medicinal effects of silymarin.
